Click “Write” and it will default to the “Write Post” tab.

You can type a post using the WYSIWYG editor which allows you to apply formating easily to your post and even included spellcheck.

After you are done writing your post look to the right column and find the box that says “Post Status”  If this box has a + sign next to it click on the + to expand the box.

Select “Published”

Then look underneath what you just typed and there are three buttons.  Click the “Save” button.

Creating a Math Department wordpress blog

Category: blogging, wordpress

To get a new blog you must have a Department of Mathematics account. If you have an account you can go to the create account page and enter your desired blog name (the one for this blog is webeditor) and your @math.purdue.edu address.

WordPress will then send a temporary password to your @math.purdue.edu account along with a link for loging in. Log into WordPress then go to “My Profile” (on the upper right hand of the page) and change your password to something you will remember.

WordPress works best with the latest version of Firefox or Internet Explorer 6 and 7.

More than just for talking about your dog

Category: blogging, wordpress

This “blog” has been created using WordPress software. The technology that allows internet denizens to write about their dogs, can also be used to deliver content to your website visitors in a dynamic fashion.

Content producers type each “blog post” in a word-processor-like interface that makes creating web content as easy as typing a document.  There is even a spellchecker!  Categories can be created and selected to guide — with the help of your webmaster — the new content to the appropriate part of your website.

The WordPress comment feature, handy while blogging, can be turned off using this same interface for users who are just interested in content management.
